FairGap Launches Independent Algorithmic Bias Audit Service for Regulated AI Systems
A specialist audit firm with no commercial relationship to AI tooling vendors offers independent bias audits that are scoped to actual regulatory obligations and built to hold up under enforcement review.
May 5, 2026. FairGap today announced the public launch of its independent algorithmic bias audit service at fairgap.com. The firm provides bias audits for organizations subject to NYC Local Law 144, the EU AI Act, Colorado SB21-169, Illinois AIVID, federal EEOC guidance, and related regulations governing automated decision systems.
FairGap conducts audits as a fully independent third party. The firm has no commercial relationships with AI tooling vendors and does not provide consulting, design, or remediation services for the systems it audits. The independence posture is intentional. Audits performed by parties with commercial interests in the audited system are routinely challenged in enforcement, and the burden of defending such audits falls on the user of the system, not on the firm that performed them.
"The bias audits being marketed in 2026 fall into two categories," a FairGap representative said. "Vendor-sponsored audits that do not meet the legal definition of independent, and consulting engagements scoped so broadly that they consume two quarters of an engineering team's capacity. We exist to provide the third option, which is an audit scoped to the actual regulatory obligation, performed by a genuinely independent party, in a format that holds up under cross-examination."
Audits are delivered as fixed-scope engagements with explicit deliverables, including documentation of methodology, results in the format the relevant regulation specifies, and an interpretation distinguishing substantive findings from sampling noise. The firm publishes its independence policy and does not enter relationships that would compromise it.
FairGap is accepting new audit engagements effective immediately and is prioritizing organizations with imminent regulatory deadlines or active enforcement inquiries.
